9 Tabs of Maps

Density:
This map shows the population. The countries with the highest population are India, China, Indonesia, and Central Europe.

Will India have a greater population in about ten years? Explain.

Growth:
This map shows the growth of the population.  This map shows that some countries are consuming more than what can be produced. It shows that some countries will soon double in size.

What countries will soon have a greater population than others? Keep in mind that the other counties are also still growing. (Look at what countries are growing FASTER)

Cities:
This map shows how much countries have become urbanized. It shows all the city night lights of the world. All the city lights are very costly and expensive but they are also good too. They have some environmental benefit.

If city lights benefit the country, than which countries benefit the most? Explain.

Water:
This map shows how many cubic meters of water per capita a country has. It claims that countries less than 5,000 cubic meters of capita are considered short of water. This is mostly in the countries with a high population.

What country do you think will run out of water first if water stops being reproduced? (Keep in mind the map of growth and the map of population)

Air:
This map shows kilos. of carbon per square kilometer. In other words it shows what countries pollute the most. It mostly shows the countries with high populations like U.S. and China. These countries have a lot of factories and people that drive often.

What countries do you think have the most automobile production? Explain.

Climate:
This map shows the surface temperature of countries. The countries with hotter than normal areas are mostly the areas that have the highest pollution.  This map mostly has to do with global warming and which countries impact global warming the most.

How does global warming affect us and other animals? Which countries contribute to this the most?

Forests:
This map shows all the forest that are here today and it shows whether its frontier, modified, or original forests. This map shows that almost 40% of the world’s remaining forests are endangered.

What countries are the most endangered?

Land:
This map shows which lands are almost pristine, transformed, and partially transformed. Humans have altered almost half of the land. A lot of them are agricultural areas. Population growth ill impact this.

Without looking at this map explain what countries you think have transformed their land the most. For help look at the population map.

Habitats:
This map shows how human population growth threatens animal species all over, even water. It states that overfishing ash already killed a lot of fish. Scientists are shocked at the increase in coral reef bleaching. Some people think that more than half of the world’s reefs may be gone by the year 2030.

Can you guess what areas most of the coral reefs will die away?

India Population - "Battle of the billionaires"

I think we should care about how many people are in India. We should because they soon might start migrating to America and all over the world. This will impact us between our economy and wars. Also, if India migrates over the world than they will still just keep on having more and more kids. Therefore, it is important for us to know about India’s population because they begin to interfere with our lives.
I think that it is wrong but, also okay to force people to have small families. I say that because if the family is forced to only have one kid than soon they will need more kids, but if a family has six kids just because they want to be “assured” to be taken care of than that is wrong. I think the families need to be controlled, but not too controlling.

Do Believe the Hype

I think this article proves that we are becoming slower on our technology. I think that even though India created an easy cheap way to get your money out of the bank it proves that we haven’t thought of it even though we like easy and quick things. This new easy banking is also becoming very popular because it is growing by thousands in months! This article even said, “The cheapest cellphone today has enough computing power to become a digital “mattress” and digital bank for the poor.” I also think that there is other stuff going on that we don’t know about. If we didn’t find out about this until now, than there could be a lot more technology that we don’t know about that could be helping even poor people because this new system is also helping poor people. I think this article proves that other countries are coming up with easy quick new technology that would be helpful in the U.S.

Palestine Israeli Conflict

This article is about how Israeli people invaded Yacoub Area and injured a twelve year old child with bombs and rubber bullets. It claims that undercover Israelis kidnapped four children under twelve. It says that the children tried hurling stones at the invaders to brake free. I think this article was pro-Palestinian. I think this because all it does is bag on Israel for kidnapping, invading, and shooting. I think that it is leaving out some major details that would make this article fairly neutral because the untold facts would be in favor of the Israelis. It is most likely leaving out the reason why Israelis had to invade Palestine in the first place. The kids could have hurt someone or invaded private property, but we don’t know because the article did not share and therefore did not tell us. I think that it is very important to show both sides of an argument, and that is definitely shown in this article. Some people might read this article and right away be pro-Palestine, but no one really knows the true situation from just one side of a story. If this article was pro-Israeli then, it might mention that the kids misbehaved or trespassed. Even if the children did do something wrong that still doesn’t make it right, but it is still always good to share both sides of a story before bagging on a specific group form that story.

Sunni and Shiite - the Difference is Important!

What’s the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite? There are many answers to this question that are important for everyone to know the answer to.  The main difference between them is there religion. They are both Muslim, but the Shi’ believe that the “Mahdi” has already come and will return again. Meanwhile, the Sunnis believe he has yet to come onto earth. Also, the Al Qaeda leaders are Sunni. Sunnis and Shi’ are very like and there are many reasons why we should know the differences between them. One reason is we should know who are enemy is. The Al Qaeda is a terrorist group opposed the United Sates; therefore, we do not like them. The leaders of Al Qaeda are Sunni. It is important to know that we do not like Sunnis because they have created a terrorist group completely opposing to our country.  It is mainly important for our F.B.I. officers, C.I.A. officials, and any other branch of government dealing with crime to know the difference between a Sunni and Shiite. This is because we want to protect our country from terrorism and the best way to do this is for everyone to know right away that a Sunni wants to terrorize our country, and a Shiite does not. If we don’t know the difference between them then that just makes our chances slimmer from protecting our country from the scare and horrors terrorism arises on us.

The Impact of 9/11

Many people thought it was an amazing thing to fly; it is still amazing to many people to watch the behemoth aluminum crafts today. But after the tragedy of nine eleven many people feared to do this phenomenon that people thought wasn’t even possible many years ago. What affect did this tragedy have on the people in the United States? It involved things like the loss of  loved ones, the depression of watching it occur and replayed, and mostly the difference in the way air travel has changed for people here in the United States.
Many citizens did not fly again until about the year 2006, and some people are still stressed out to fly. Some of them are not stressed out by the scare that nine eleven caused, but the strict rules it caused airlines to enforce on their customers. Some of these new rules varied on the processes you had to go through to get on the plane and the list of items you can and cannot bring on the plane. Because of the new stressful rules and the scare from nine eleven, the average air travel decreased by about 2.5 million people and still has not reached  the pre nine eleven highs today. As you can see nine eleven affected many people which causes them to not fly.
Not only did nine eleven impact individual citizens, but it also affected airline businesses. Many businesses had to lay off workers because of their customer’s fear and stress of terrorist on a plane after nine eleven. This made the income of most of the airline businesses too low to afford to pay some of their workers and the supplies they needed. Two years before the tragedy of nine eleven, most airline businesses were making the most net profits in their business history. Their average income two years before decreased by about 11,000 dollars anually. This mostly affected new businesses and small businesses. Some of them are still suffering today.
Six years after nine eleven researchers found how it affected people’s mental health. Researchers compared brain scans of witnesses of nine eleven and those who were farther away. Through this, they found that people who were actually there showed heightened activity in the part of their brain that regulates emotional intensity and creates emotional memories. Researchers also found that actually experiencing nine eleven created a type of memory that was exceptionally vivid and confident recollection of a shocking public event. Those who were near the occurrence of nine eleven are found to show depressed activity which uses neutral peripheral details. This helps explain why they were able to have that memory so much longer and more vivid than average memories.  9/11 had many effects on people physically, but also many effects involved people’s mental struggles.
9/11 had affected things in many ways. It varied from air travel, airline businesses, mental health, and much more. Through this tragedy many things changed here in the United States. Between new rules in air travel or just the way we humans now act in general. Because of nine eleven, we are constantly reminded how serious the consequences of terrorism can be and how we need to be vigilant against its fruition.
